چکیده

Introduction Coffee contains a variety of different substances of which several are biological active (1). The physiological effect of coffee is normally linked to the content of caffeine (2). Coffee contains, however, also a considerable amount of chlorogenic acid (CGA) (3), which belongs to the important group of biologically active phenols of which 5-caffeoylquinic acid (5-CQA) is the most important (4). Phenolic compounds are found in considerable amounts in the nature first of all in different plants (5).

The effect of chlorogenic acid enriched coffee on glucose absorption in healthy volunteers and its effect on body mass when used long-term in overweight and obese people.

The results from a clinical study performed in 12 healthy volunteers with different coffee products containing glucose show that instant coffee enriched with chlorogenic acid induced a reduction in the absorption of glucose of 6.9% compared with the control. No such effects were seen with normal or decaffeinated instant coffee. In a second, comparative, randomized, double-blind, 12-week study w...

The Effect of Concurrent Training and Chlorogenic Acid Intake on Liver Enzymes and C-reactive Protein in Obese Women

Background & objectives: Due to the prevalence of obesity and the subsequent development of metabolic risk factors, cardiovascular and fatty liver complications, exercise programs and the use of natural supplements can play a significant role in controlling and preventing these diseases. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to review the effect of eight weeks of combined exercise and Chlo...

Coffee acutely modifies gastrointestinal hormone secretion and glucose tolerance in humans: glycemic effects of chlorogenic acid and caffeine.

BACKGROUND Accumulating evidence suggests that certain dietary polyphenols have biological effects in the small intestine that alter the pattern of glucose uptake. Their effects, however, on glucose tolerance in humans are unknown. OBJECTIVE The objective was to investigate whether chlorogenic acids in coffee modulate glucose uptake and gastrointestinal hormone and insulin secretion in humans...

EFFECT OF A GREEN DECAFFEINATED COFFEE EXTRACT ON GLYCAEMIA A Pilot Prospective Clinical Study

in chlorogenic acid (5-caffeoylquinic acid) (Fig 1). Coffee, one of the most widely consumed beverages in the world, is the major dietary source of chlorogenic acids. Chlorogenic acid has antioxidant properties as shown by its ability to scavenge various free radicals when tested in vitro (3-5). Moreover, chlorogenic acid reduces glucose uptake by favouring the dissipation of the Na+ electroche...

The effect of chlorogenic acid on learning and memory and acetylchoinesterase activity in rats with cognitive deficit induced by intracerebroventricular streptozotocin

Background and Objective: Chlorogenic acid (CGA) is a major polyphenolic component of coffee. Reduction in the risk of a variety of diseases following CGA consumption has been mentioned in recent studies. The effect of CGA on learning and memory in rats with cognitive deficit induced by intracerebroventricular streptozotocin (STZ) and  acetylchoinesterase (AChE) activity was evaluated in this s...
